Between the Rhine and Sauerland
Discover the Bergisches Land
The Bergisches Land is a region in North Rhine-Westphalia, named not, as one might think, after its very mountainous landscape, but after the former rulers, the counts and later dukes of Berg. It lies on the right bank of the Rhine, is approx. 50 km wide and approx. 100 km long from the northernmost to the southernmost tip.
In the north, the Bergisches Land borders the Ruhr, in the south the Sieg and in the east it merges into the Sauerland without any recognisable scenic border. Our beautiful Bergneustadt is located in the southern Oberberg district near Gummersbach and is easy to reach via the motorways 4 and 45.
Most of the Bergisches Land is characterised by a varied low mountain range landscape with forests, meadows, hills and narrow valleys – ideally suited as a recreational area for sport and leisure. Well-known rivers are the Sieg tributary Agger and the Agger tributaries Sülz and Wiehl. The Oberbergisches Land is also characterised by its dams; the Agger dam is only a few kilometres away from our hotel.
